I have noticed that a LOT of answers about religion (especially those about God and/or Jesus) are getting thumb downs ratings. Why the negativity?

Anyone who is disrespectful or insulting (regardless of what their religion is) will get thumbs down from me and sadly, a lot of answers here are disrespectful, hence they earn a lot of thumbs down.
I have the feeling that some people here give thumbs down to people who don't share their beliefs though. I've given similar answers to questions, sometimes mentioning that I'm an atheist and sometimes not, and I seem to get a whole lot of thumbs down when I mention that I'm an atheist and hardly any when I don't mention that, so it seems like people are particularly intolerant in this section.
I'm sure some people also give thumbs down if they simply disagree with the answer, even if it wasn't disrespectful or anything.

But my question is, what does it matter? If a person wants to speak their mind, then a lil ole thumb pointing downward isn't going to stop em from getting a point accross. The cartoon thumbs don't have any affect on rating, as far as I know. Besides it's not like money in the bank, or points earned to gain a prize. Try not to worry about it. Some folks are going to be mean no matter what the cause. :-)

I would guess it is a mix of several things, personally I give a thumbs down to any question, religious or not, that shows hate-speech, doesn't bother to answer the question, or is of the "I am right and everyone else is wrong" variety. Some people are afraid of those with strong religious beliefs and others just like to stir trouble on here, so giving thumbs down is just a childish way of behaving.

Most of the negativity come from the Atheists. They are naturally angry people. The source of anger? i have no idea. But you can easily look on their answers and questions and see how much they bash christians and other religions. i posted a similar question to yours and those devils reported me. LMAO!!! God said that the devil will cause confusion and hate to discredit him. This is evident on this board. Non believers of Christ and Atheists do not like to hear the praising of God. The devil doesnt like to hear and see the same. Hence we all get a thumbs down. Some people are just bored and like to harrass people who doesnt agree with them. these people are no-lifers who hang around on Answers all day. Dont let it affect you. Momma always said that you cant fight ignorance. just let them be and pray that they see the light. at the same time laugh at them. I do. LOL

I rate based on how well they ansewered the question, if it's offensive it gets a thumbs down, and if I agree with their conclusion I'm more likely to give a thumbs up (not always though, if you can make a great point, I may give a thumbs up if I agree with it or not).

Answers on here are not rated by the quality of thought but on whether the rater agrees or disagrees with the answer. It is just a popularity contest like back in high school and junior high

I have a negative fan who stalks my answers and thumbs down almost all of them, even when they are non-controversial food answers or tasteful jokes. Some people are petty. I only thumbs down stupid answers and Questions when they are egregiously stupid, bigoted or inane.

Negativity is all they have, its in their nature.
Any mention of the savior or God drives them into hysterics. Its like cutting your thumb, you are never sensitive about it being there until its wounded. Similarly, they are wounded in spirit, and very sensitive about it.
