I do not know, but in my opinnion the Confederate battle flag is a symbol for people who had demonstrated their desire to NOT be part of the United States, but of a new and separate nation. Their rebellion was defeated. It is the symbol of treason and defeat.

If they are given an order and they refuse to obey it then they they can be punished.

The stars and bars has negative connotations for many African Americans. Having that flag hanging in the quarters cannot positively impact the cohesiveness of the unit.

Because symbols have power, and that particular symbol is a direct defiance of the US government and also has strong racial overtones. Flying it amounts to treason. Besides that, US soldiers don't pay for their barracks. If they want personal space they can get a hotel room.

cause african americans are fighting in the war also and having the flags will only cause fighting inside the U.S. army and it shows that racism is still a big issue.
