It is a form of penicillin! It can be called several things but it is always a form of PCN. And no I've worked in a emergency department for 10 yrs and no doctor I know would prescribe that for a cut finger! Typically if they are afraid of infection they would treat with IV antibiotics.

I'm a pharmacy tech, If the liquid is pink its probably Amoxil ( amoxicillin) which is in the family of penicillin.. if she started to take the antibiotic and didnt have a reaction within 30 minutes to 24 hrs chances are she isn't sensitive to all forms of penicillin. little one should be fine.. and that doctor should be changed...

its amoxicillin and generally it is to be refrigerated...side effects can include nausea so even though it is not necessary to take it with food, doing so can calm this effect
if the child is allergic to penicillin then she may or may not be able to tolerate amoxicillin based on the fact that amoxicillin is really only a tougher antibiotic as far as withstanding what the body does to it....most of an oral dose of penicillin is wasted due to stomach acid destorying it and amoxicillin was created to last a little longer

I am not absolutely sure but,I think the child may be taking amoxicillan,my children had it prescribed to them often for ear infections.the person in charge of the child should always check with the other caregiver for allergies to medications, and if possible see the same physician.
