Consider this statement:

People who go to the funerals of fallen servicemen with signs that say "God hates fags" are misusing freedom of speech.

That statement contains the phrase "God hates fags". Does that mean my question is in violation of the Community Guidelines? How much do you want to bet Y!A will take it down, since they don't quite get the idea of context?

Yeah, I had a question deleted that simply asked "Does anybody know the percentage of homophobic men that secretly watch lesbian porn?"

I think in that sentence nothing actually meant what it said. But I guess the word 'porn' was too much.

Ah well, asking a question in the immigration section that simply stated "Spanish is a beautiful language, isn't it?" also gets deleted, and I truly can't think of any bad word in that sentence.

Abram - My guess is they are using a program that scans for certain words. If you take a violation to the forum, they will look at it again and if they see that its unfair, give you your points back. My companion got his back yesterday.

I know about the demonstrators...its a self-appointed minister of a church made up of his family in Topeka. He used to be a lawyer...what does that tell you. You can look up his website...I cannot put the link on here because its obscene.

Our CMA's (Christian Motorcycle Association) are partnering with local Patriot Guard groups to protect the families of the servicemen during the funerals. If you get a chance to see the Patriot Guard in action it will bring tears to your eyes. All those rough, tough bikers, many of them Viet Nam Vets, standing at attention and holding the American flag. Its as if, by doing this, their pride and honor are restored. Maybe all things do happen for a good reason.

I think you're right about certain words getting flagged and unfortunately it gets deleted becuase it gets taken out of context. They don't have the man power to read each so they rely on insulting words and certain phrases to delete. It's a shame that yours was put int the same category, but I'm sure it wasn'r personal. Don't worry about it. We saw your post and it wasn't offensive within its context.

I know! I had an answer deleted this week simply because I asked what the person was talking about (the question dealt with genocide in the Bible, I had never heard about it before, and my answer was deleted because it was "offensive to other users". I just asked for clarification!)! Yahoo needs better workers.

It should not be, for, aside from a statement of fact (in that these signs are brought to the funerals), you are not presenting it as a diatribe.

Still, someone will get ticked off and want it pulled

I got a violation notice because I wanted to know why white men were attracted to Chinese women.

That's crazy.

Must be a Chinese chick in charge of this or a white woman who feels she's been screwed over.

the ones who will be able to answer this are the ones who are in charge of this web site. personally feel as if this is a quote from another source it should be allowed. however, I have nothing to say in the matter of what stays or goes. there are other things which I personally find more offensive.

They are jack-booted, goose-stepping Thought Police.

I had an account suspended because I called a girl "spoiled" for whining about her mom not letting her have a dog!

sometimes i believe it's just an script that looks for offensive words and then automatically sends you an email warning you about it. I don't think there are actual people monitoring our questions and answers.

Yes, Y! Answers is a little cheesy. I get deleted I GET DELETED instead of the "what should I do retard" or "Julia". I do. So that should teach you something.
