How much does it cost to get license plates in TX? I'm moving to Dallas next month and am trying to get all the info I need to make my car legal. The TX Dept. of Transportation website didn't say anything about cost, it only showed a picture of the plate. So, does anyone know what it costs, if anything?

Having moved to TX from out of state twice, they will hit you $10.00 to move your title to TX. They will also compare the tax rate in the state that you're coming from and charge you the difference in sales tax if your current state's rate is lower than TX's rate. They'll use the low trade-in value of your car normally.

It depends. Vanity plates can cost $100-$200 depending on who you order them from. And don't forget, you will have to pay a little more every year than a person with regular plates

My plates (renewal) cost $52.80 each year. Now to move here and change registration, I'm not sure. Could be the same, but there will be a cost. I think you have time to change over, so it shouldn't put you in a financial bind immediately.
