You need to do lots of cardio, it will improve your heart's strength but also trim and cut you up. You do not have to do running, you can do walking, biking, hiking, swimming, dancing, aerobic classes, karate, kickboxing etc. Also weight training is very good as well bc it decreases chances for osteoporosis and builds muscle while getting rid of fat.
An exercise that focuses on love handles would be take a 5 lb. weight stand with your legs closed put the weight in one hand (let's say the right) and lean to the right so that you go from standing up straight to leaning over on the side and then come back up in straight position do about the sets of 10 and then switch arms.
Let me know how it goes.

Aerobic exercise should be your main focus, love handles are excess fat and to get rid of that fat you need to burn more calories. I had the same problem after injuring my back, I could not workout for 6 months and I gained about 15 pounds. When I returned to the gym my focus was on cardio with light weight training.

I have lost 11 pounds now after just 8 weeks of 3 days a week working out and my love handles are almost gone! But I would focus on aerobic excercise, this is what I do:

I walk on a treadmill at 3 mph no incline for 10 minutes to warm up my body. Then I bump it up to 4 mph which gets me into my training zone, heart rate 120 to 130. It's very important for you to get into your training zone to burn the most fat!!!! Here's a graphic of target training zones based on age:

Once you reach your training zone maintain it for at least 20 minutes, do this at least 3 days a week and you will see those love handles go away!!!!

In addition to this go here to check your BMI or body mass index:

Basically prohibit your calorie consumption and RUN four miles daily for eight days directly. They will probably be long gone. Its very although to get by way of this primary eight days, however if you happen to do the walking will get simpler.
