My husband's grandma and my grandma have the same last name. (not related)
I also know of a woman who I used to babysit for who married a guy with the same last name as hers. Her maiden name was Cherry and her husband's last name was Cherry too. (not related)
When I found my birth father, I finally knew what my "true biological name" should have been. It was the same last name as my best friend! I thought that was kind of neat too.

So what's the problem? People have been married who have the same last name (such as Smith) but are unrelated to each other. Crow - Crowe - big deal. What matters is how you feel towards each other not whether or not his last name may be similar to one in your family. If you're sure this is the guy, then go for it.

As others have said, dig around to see if his branch of the family started adding the "e" or yours dropped it.
Although it isn't done much today, most of us who have roots in the USA before 1850 in counties west of the Atlantic seaboard have cousin couples in our tree. People used to marry their first cousins all the time; also second and third cousins, and cousins once removed. In some counties, after the original 8 families had been there for two generations, if you wanted to marry a white woman, it was a cousin or nothing.
If it does turn out your fifth great grandfathers were brothers, fine; your genealogy will be that much easier and you'll have something in common.
It could be worse. I work with a lady whose maiden name was Sherry Anderson. She married a William Perry and is now Sherry Perry.

Why would it be weird? Just b/c of the names sounding the same. If he's great and and perfect I don't see a problem unless this bothers you, then you will have to make that decision on your own,

odd coincidence. what did shakespeare say about a rose? to paraphrase, it would still smell as sweet if it was named something else. don't let the name thing hang you up.
