Personally I think it is a fake for the following reasons.
1. If you look closely at the image; the head is slightly seperated from the body.
2. The shroud has been carbon dated to the 13th century.
3. I think it was made to instill faith in the followers of Christianity.

If i am not mistaken, the shroud appeared 'miraculously' on easter in the 13th or 14th century. It has been proven to be a fake. If you look at it closely it kinda look like one of Leonardo da Vinci's self-portates.
It was just created to make money and reassure the christians.
Peace

I have watched many shows and read many books on it and I believe it to be real. It has the imprint of plantlife that would have existed in the same time which would have been used for dressing the body for burial. It also contains the image "burned" into the cloth by an unknown method. The wounds on the image match those thought to be inflicted upon Jesus before his death and the face is reflective of the characteristics one would assume Jesus would have given his heritage. There are many other details that would take too long to go into but it seems real to me.

I watched a thing on that on the History Channel and everyone who saw it and ran test showed it was a fake. They cut it in half by computer and the size is different. Showed fragments of paint like stuff on it. It was a wild show.

Hardly an image of Jesus---just staining, and over active imaginations.

The image bears a striking resemblance to Osama bin Laden.
Apparently someone else thought so too:

I think it's total nonsense, or at best, wishful thinking on the part of some who require proof of their faith. If you need proof, how much faith can you have, after all?
