Because we all need forgiveness. Yes, it was part of the plan, however just the mere fact that Jesus had to come to spill His blood was reason enough for forgiveness.

Up until that point they were described as a cursed generation. If people not only reject the truth when it comes accompanied by signs and wonders and then they kill the messenger how then would any Deity be expected to forgive them---only one who had walked a mile in their shoes would do so. Wonder who fits those qualifications??? They were given a legitimate offer. That truth is important to understand what happened. They truly could have walked right into the Kingdom had they accepted.

OMG, no they should not have been blessed and praised. No murderer should be blessed and praised, including the ones who put Jesus to death.
Jesus is simply asking his father (God) to forgive them. He is telling God that they don't understand or realize what they are doing. Jesus is asking God to simply forgive them.
Yes, the crucifixion was part of the plan. God knew what they were going to do, as far as nailing him to the cross and letting him die. But God and Jesus both were willing to sacrifice like this, in order for man's sins to be forgiven. God could have prevented this from happening, but he chose to allow it to happen, for all of mankind, in order that man's sins can be forgiven.
This was the greatest sacrifice of all, and every one of us on earth need to be very thankful for this sacrifice. All of us should worship God and Jesus every single day, and thank them.

Murder is a sin. Yes it was part of the plan. Yes we were created with a sin nature. Before you can run you must walk. First come to know God then spiritual understanding comes. Why did he curse the fig tree for not bearing fruit when it was not the season for figs?

They didn't know that they were "killing" the Son of God [in the context of the New Testament]. But their intentions were political, not in the cause of justice. Presumeably God knew what the Jewish establishment and the Roman's reactions would be. They had evil intentions so therefore they needed to be forgiven.

they that judged and sacrificed Jesus on the cross did not know who he really was or what they were doing. They were blinded because of their unbelief and lack of faith.
as far as blessing them, it says in the bible we should all learn to forgive one another for our wrong doings.

He asks God to forgive them because they did not believe He was the Son of God. After Jesus died (cue the earthquakes, meyhem at the temple, darkened sky, etc.), they believed. "Truly this was the Son of God," one guard said. Can you imagine how they must have felt afterwards? Pretty bad, I imagine.

They had no idea of the enormity of rejecting their Messiah, and what this would mean to the nation.
