I think people want to become anorexic because so many celebs have come out that they were anorexic. And because of that it's now thought of by some people as a fad or crash course diet. Which it is obviously not it's a very serious illness, but I wouldn't worry about it to much.

I don't think anorexia can be developed because starving yourself takes a lot of will power and self hate. Well, the good pro ana sites don't gratify it it gives people with eds a place to feel comfortable and most post the side effects of eds, but please don't go to them because it's like invading someone's home without the key.

I hope this helped sorry if I offended you or anything. People like that bug me because I used to be anorexic and it just is annoying to me that it's taken so lightly now.

I don't think very many people want to be anorexic. Anorexia isn't about food, it's about control. Young people, mostly girls, feel out of control about their lives and sometimes the only thing they feel they can control is their eating. Anorexia gets a hold of them and never lets go. Even if they get treatment, the mind set stays with them for the rest of their lives. My sister was diagnosed with anorexia when she was 18 and still deals with the urges and she is in her 40's now. 2 of her daughters also have it.

This question and its answer really shows how misunderstood anorexia is. It's a disorder, it's not a weight loss method or extreme diet or anything else like that. People don't wake up one morning and say, "Hmm, I'd like to be anorexic." It is an actual disease that no one who has not been anorexic will ever understand what it's like, nor than they presume to say, "Oh, it's not a real dieasese."

I believe it's a behavioral disorder, not a disease and should be treated as such with medical intervention.

They visit the sites to validate their illness, if you know someone like this refer them to a local physician.
