I am a Christian, and regularly come into contact with other Christians in daily life as well as at meetings. I find people all over the graph, intelligence-wise, just as with any other cross-section of the population.
One becomes a Christian by hearing the gospel (everyone has sinned, the penalty for sin is death, Christ died to pay that penalty for you, you can be saved by faith in Christ), and believing it.
There are some intelligent people (above-average intelligence) who analyze this and conclude that it is true by examination of the claims and the evidence. (Aside, regardless of whether the reader agrees with the validity of this process, I am saying here that it does occur. Two examples are authors C.S. Lewis and Josh McDowell, both of whom wrote of rationally analyzing the claims.)
However, there are also people at every point on the IQ scale that are spiritually led to believe it, rather than analytically.
I don´t think that you have established that most Christians are outstandingly intelligent, so I´ll rephrase your question before answering it - "Why do most Christians seem to the asker to be intelligent?"
The answer is probably something like "Because people tend to hang out with others who are like them and share common interests." And since you probably consider yourself to be intelligent (as I do - who goes around saying "I am unintelligent"?), that´s probably who you are around, who you most notice, and who you most respond to.
Sort of like when you buy a car, suddenly you see lots of others like it on the road that you never noticed before.
Merry Christmas to you, and to everyone here.

"Even though I am a Christian, I believe that my fellow Christians are intelligent."
Does that imply that christians typically wouldn't believe other christians are intelligent? That you're an exception? Sounds like you could use a logic course to me.

This could be due to the fact that, they have actually taken the time to read the Bible and understand it.
I've gone through 4 years of university for communications, at a Christian university. Before I could graduate I have to take 7 Bible courses, it was very intensive reading in Hebrew the books of the Bible..or even to learn more about the Bible try Greek.
The Bible has be translated to communicate to many.. but when understood in it's original text it can be quite impressive. One basically needs to be well informed, to understand a lot that is put into the Bible.. and not just the face value of it; just being a text written by many people. Those people were given divine inspiration from God 'God breathed' into them the words to write.. and guided their writing.'
When you seek the Lord you shall find.. but when found, one has the inner desire to learn more. Through the process of learning its natural for people to become more intelligent.

The bible belt region of the USA seems to be the worst in education. Those heathen places along the east and west coasts seem to have much higher educational standards and more intelligent people.

Wisdom and discernment come from the Father and seeking His Word and His ways. And as a Christian you must know that being boastful is a sin---we should be humble with the gifts that God has given us in order for us to be raised up in the kingdom.

I don't know... I'm a Christian too. Maybe we're just more polite or something. If you come from a Christian family you're less likely to have tons of drug abuse or marriage problems. Also Christians are sometimes better stewards of their money. Lots of stuff contributes to it. But I don't know that we're really all that much smarter. I do agree with you somewhat, but most of the Christians my age that I hang out with are either really dumb or really ditsy. I think it depends on how much you trust in God. If you pray for good grades, he helps you to study and remember what you need to know.

Because they never actually TEST to see if such a bigoted claim is actually true. Their dogma prohibits testing for proof of most claims.

You would think that YOUR people are pretty much all intelligent. That's fine, go ahead, you are entitled to your opinion. Everybody is. I do think it's a bit of an oxymoron, in my opinion. The general population is pretty dumb- also, in my opinion. I think that people of religion tend to get tunnel vision and superiority complexes, due to the battle of religions and their validity. This comment you make only proves my theory more solid than before.

True wisdom comes from God.
A lot of Christian family's home school. Home schooling is providing some of the most intelligent children for the high end colleges. Home schooling is usually far ahead of public or private school.
