if u can do both low fat and low carb then thats the best all around. if u are working out then go with low fat (u will burn carbs when exercising and need them to keep going for energy).

My wife had tried both at different times but it was the low carb coupled with exercise that enabled her to lose weight and keep it off.
Also, increasing fiber intake will help. Concentrate on the Glycemic Index, G.I. That is a reference to how quickly your body turns the carbs into blood sugar. High GI foods are rice cakes and baked potatoes. Low GI foods are most vegetables and some fruits. Their are several websites where you can find this info, although i don't know any.

I've done the low-fat for years and it worked pretty well, but my hair didn't grow very well, brittle nails, and lot's of cravings. I did just recently try South Beach, low carb diet. It's cut down into phases, phase 1 (2 weeks) being the hardest. You do eat carbs, found in cheese, lots of veggies, and nuts. It's great because it shocks your body into weight loss. Then after 2 weeks you add in healthy carbs, whole grains, fruit, etc. eating this within reason, and all things in balance. Your body needs the good fat found in dairy, meat (chicken ,fish, turkey) and oils like olive oil, peanut oil and other pure pressed oils. This worked best for me (lost 35 pounds doing it).

I personally think a well rounded personally addressed diet is best. No two people are alike; and accordingly no two bodies are either. A properly planned INDIVIDUAL diet is the key to controlling your body's growth(or lack there of). Low carb might be good for one person while low fat may be essential for someone else. Start a journal ;record your eating habits and use that journal to alter your diet accordingly. For me high protein intake is important because I exercises frequently. Learn about foods, fats, carbs and proteins. educate yourself extensively.

The bottom line is calories in vs. calories burned. It doesn't matter really where they come from. I would suggest researching Weight Watchers and the points system. It has worked for me very well (I have done it for almost two years without going to meetings). The main thing is portion control and knowing how much of what to eat so that you don't take in more calories than you should in order to lose weight. They've got it down to a science. You can buy the points calculators on E-bay for around $10 - $20.

low carb is absolutely horrible for you.....honestly do you think you'll be able to eat nothing but meat and water for two weeks straight?
I pick low fat, at least you'll be able to eat anything you want within reason

Low quantity works best...most people over eat based on their exercise levels.
