Outside of Zoloft which I just got put on yesterday.. Is there anyway to deal with this. I tried to have a total breakdown on friday/saturday. I can't seem to get it through to my husband that I need a break that I can't keep being the one man band/parent. I know that its difficult and what not but I didn't think that it would be this difficult. Any ideas as to how to cope until my system adjusts to the zoloft?and how to properly give my husband a kick in the pants to give me a helping hand?

I also have pre diagnosed history of depression which makes this harder - thus the reason of Zoloft.
As for the hubby, he found out what it is like to be me last night/this morning. Out of his own volition he tried to keep my schedule and is currently past out asleep. I feel bad for him actually.

Get to therapy (counseling), keep asking him to help but be specific in your suggestions. Maybe you could set up some sort of schedule? Or give him an assignment so you and he both know when the break is coming. Of course it is hard for both of you, but just because he works, doesn't get him off the hook! (you might go back to work too, so would that get you off the hook, don't think so!) If you can agree upon how much time you need (and it doesn't need to be a lot) it would be a good starting point. Try to get out of the house during your "time off"
Also, the other suggestion to join a gym and utilize their babysitting was also great. If your baby is young they might not take him yet though. I would try to set up some babysitting arrangements and utilize those. Also, if you can find a local moms club or some other organization for new moms to meet and chat. It's great to have a support system.
Call friends, family, anyone you are close to and see if they can come over to talk and visit (you don't want to ask them to help you, but sometimes just having the company is great) or if they want to go out. Newborns are not that difficult to take out. They still sleep a lot, usually only need a change or a feeding to keep quiet, and most actually enjoy the stimuli of seeing new things, as long as they are protected and held by their mom.
good luck and hang in there!

if he totally took care of the baby it would not mean your post partum would go away... dont blame him.
he works, it is your responsibility, he isnt a doctor, he has no way to get inbetween your two ears and fix this, so give him a break.
i had it, its rough. it could last a year or more.
get some sunshine, get some humor, get some exercise, keep on keeping on and it will be better soon
join a gym and work out with the baby in day care.

I went through this in august. I got to the point where I want to leave and never come back. I wanted to leave my husband and my son and my family etc. I told my husband. He asked me what he could do and I told him that I need help with everything. I never took pills or anything. He started to help. I also told my mom and dad and they came over after work for a while, they live over an hour away. I got the sleep and help that I needed and I was fine a few days later. You need to give him a scare. Although I wanted to leave I knew that was wrong. If you know that you are thinking wrong thins you need to share everything with your spouse and family.

Well please do not try to have anymore breakdowns.
Zoloft or not, your husband needs to realize that your body has gone through nine plus months of hormonal hell at the end of which you had this wonderful baby. You are tired, down, stressed out and you need some breaks and a little help.
So, that is what you have to do...sit him down and tell him honestly. And if that is not enough, haul him off to the doctor with you and let the doctor tell him.
