The Christian name Satan comes from the Muslim name Shaitan, which
means Adversary. As the Bible also uses the term Adversary.
Whether there is an original evil spirit being, or Supreme Ruler. Or Satan
is the just the personification of evil. A focus point to describe evil, is really
irrelevant. As there are billions of evil beings in Creation. Many of them right
here on Earth!

Well, for the most part, except in Christian belief, Satan was an angel who sinned and was cast from the heavens. In Islam, we believe that angels are in perfect obedience to God and have no room for sinning, therefore he was not an angel. We believe instead that he was another creation called a jinn, who was created from fire. Jinn are given free will like man, and when God commanded all creations to bow down to Adam, Satan refused in arrogance thinking that since he was created from fire, everyone should bow to him rather than a creation from dust.

Not every religion mentions Satan by his first hebrew title, but Satan has so many names! Not quite every religion has such a figure of evil, but most do. If you look closely, you'll find him almost everywhere.

Judaism defines Satan as an angel IN HEAVEN who has no free will, who does "God's" will by strengthening mankind's spirit through challenges *as "God" directs him to do*.

The early Christian church created their own "Satan", which bears almost no resemblance to the original.

From http://www.faqs.org/faqs/judaism/FAQ/06-Jewish-Thought/section-36.html

The notion of an angel having free will is alien to Judaism. Free will requires the tension created by being a soul dwelling in a body. People can have free will, but angels can't. Satan acts as a servant of God, not as an opponent or even disobedient child. Angels cannot sin, they cannot fall.

no because Christians (and maybe Jews) believe Satan is a fallen Angel. In Islam (and in reality) Satan is a Jinn, not an Angel.

Monotheistic religions have a polar side to the god figure. Each one would have somebody that is on the other side of god.
