I've struggled with religious faith for years. Being raised Roman Catholic and going to a catholic highschool had left me feeling somewhat forced to believe in things that I question now that I'm older and allowed to think for myself. I currently have no belief in any God, however I find myself at times questioning him directly because of habits I picked up early on. When in fact I think the whole idea of God and Jesus is naive. None the less, we all need to have faith in something. I ask this question in ignorance because I haven't really done research into other religions. Are there any religions based on the teachings of real people, who actually existed? I prefer teachings based upon a physical reality, the nature of things. Whatever can be touched, smelled, heard, seen and tasted. The five senses and their relation to the four elements. In all of theses things I sense truth. If anyone can help me at all it would be truly appreciated.

You don't have to, you can have a mind of your own and think as outward as possible and not fill a void as quick as you can because the question of existance bothers you.

Bring on the thumbs down, I know you're out there waiting to judge my answer... it's cool... Everyone is entiltled to their opinion.

If you set out looking for a god, you will probably find one. The fact that there are no gods will not hinder your search because delusion is such a comfortable whore. As long as you have doubts about the existence of gods, you ought to run with that train of thought and explore rational thought. Atheism is not something that is stumbled on in the dark or in a blinding flash. To achieve rationality is a developmental process that has to overcome the mindless programming that has been shoved at you since childhood. I'm amazed that I started asking the right questions when I was eleven and even more amazed that I was able to take the "because" answers of religion with a jaundiced eye at such a young age. Still it took three more years before I called myself an agnostic and three hard years more before being able to call myself an Atheist. Happy about it? Sometimes I envy delusionalists who think they are going to end up in some cosmic Disneyland when they die, instead of the void on non-existence, but in the end, I'm happy I do not live in the delusional haze that seems to keep them anesthetized to reality.

I was in the same boat as you are now. I was raised catholic, left the church, went to several different denominations, then witchcraft--now I am catholic again. Mostly because they stay true in the bible--never branching out. They keep you spiritual--with all the prayers and symbolism. It's the church that Jesus founded 2000 years ago-unlike most of the denominations that's only been around 600 years or less, with multiple ideas and rules. BUT You're looking for a religion based on senses, hmmm well, in catholicism, the senses are used, for example: incense-for smell, holy water and rosary to feel, the host and wine for taste, prayers ,bells, and preaching for hearing, pictures and statues for seeing. However, I once knew a priest who told me to not trust my 5 senses.Because it was a human reality-not of God's. God does not see us as we see us, He sees us as a collection of molecules and atoms that makes us up. That is why He can change us and shape us anyway He wants too, and that's why He can heal us(because He can rearrange what we can't). Now I once thought that that priest was crazy, but now that I am older, I'm beginning to understand. Interesting isn't it? I know, I didn't answer your question, but maybe someone else here can. Good luck!

When religion is concerned, it is not the 5 senses that will detect
the existence of God, It is your heart that will do the job for you,
provided your heart is in a pure state. It is improper for me to pinpoint to you which is right or wrong regarding the belief of religions. You are getting very close to the truth , provided you relate the four elements to the universe and try to find out how benevolence the God is towards mankind. Once your pure heart have detected the God, you will undoubtedly having a convincing faith in the existence of God.

hello tiger! i understand what you mean. i am also a catholic and up to now i am still a catholic, i have gone searching, and i found out that religion has nothing to do with our salvation.

Relationship with the Lord is the most important thing to find. You are so blessed for you are on your calling. Go and search for Him. get out of the religion issue.....just look for the Lord and He is always there for you,

Psalm 139:23-24 says, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way."

Psalm 27:4 "One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to meditate in His temple,"

God Loves you!!!!!

You have a lot of questions to be answered--but do you believe that you were created for a purpose or do you think that you are here just to exist? Just like you said--we all need FAITH in something--God created you with a plan and a purpose for you to fulfill--if you seek Him with all your heart-you will find Him. God loves you-of that you can be certain and He is just waiting for you to run to Him with everything you have--He knows everything about you--and if your faith is as much as a mustard seed then you can surely grow in Him if you put your life in His hands.

I highly suggest checking out http://www.religioustolerance.org/ , an unbiased, current, well-sourced site with overviews of all the major world religions as well as many minor ones. It's not exactly deep religious study, but it's a great place to get an idea of things that may appeal to you for further study--and each section has the history of each religion, as well.

You don't need a religion to be a good human being. Just follow your heart and conscience no matter in which direction. Peace.

Maybe you should research Wicca and/or Paganism. I would at least do some research on as many religions you can and then go from there. Finding something you're comfortable with and what feels right for you is the key.

Forget religion.

Christ is the path of salvation.
Christ is the truth of God's Word.
Christ is the life eternal.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Christ is the tree of life.

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

God is natural, He is supernatural.
