I think it needs a goal before it will end. We will never completely wipe out terrorism, so the 'war on terror' rhetoric binds us to stay in Iraq forever.
I think when it becomes politically unpopular the US will withdraw the troops... maybe after the next election?
What I want to see is the combat troops removed. There's this rhetoric about not leaving 'until the job is done' as it will leave Iraq in a bad state. The peace keeping troops are fine for that, so are diplomatic moves, but militant troops only escalate the problems. I hope a change of government will remove the militant troops.

without cheap gas the usa is screwed. Most other countries pay lots more. Never forget cheap energy and superior weapons is your one big card.....if the wheels fall off in those screwy arab countries you're toast......

If you don't have the nads to join the military then don't and you won't have to worry about a thing. The ones that do will carry they load, they always have.

if the oil wasnt cheap, they wouldnt be there.
the saudis dont want us to leave. it will make that whole region unstable, they cant leave as long as they want oil in that region.
and they dont want to make serious decisions toward alternative fuel sources. they wont leave.
