you can travel anywhere by bus whatever zone you have.
and by the way you can not buy only zone1 you must get 1-2.
trust me I sell ticket for london underground!
to inspector above you need to go back to training as you don't seem to know that we don't do single zone travelcard anymore.

Carina got it bang on. The small investment will be recouped in a few hours as the cash price for tickets is twice the Oyster fare. Invest in your oyster and keep it for next time you, or a friend, come down to the Big Smoke. We love Oyster down here, they're brilliant. (Don't travel before 9.30 a.m. on your Oyster - this peak use means you will be ripped off for £13 per day instead of £6 if you travel after 9.31am).

I would say yes provided it's a zone 1 travelcard and not just a zone 1 single/return journey ticket, because there are no zones on buses anymore (just on LUL and national rail).
Just to be on the safe side phone London transport travel information on 0207 222 1234.
Hope this helps as I'm an Inspector for LUL

no as it only covers Zone 1
go to an underground station and get a map, it will say zone 1 2 3 etc - one sec, ill find you it online :o)
-------------
in the background there is a faint grey and white background with numbers, they are the zones. Zone 1 is the circle line underground so you can travel up to that boarder. :o)

if you have a zone 1 travel card for a week or so then you can travel anywhere on the bus. Otherwise the bus journey is not covered.

BUS ZONES ARE DIFFERENT FROM TUBE ZONES!!!!
IF YOU BUY BUS ZONE 1 IT WILL BE BIGGER THAN TUBE ZONE 1. SO KEEP EYE ON ZONE MENTIONED ON BUS STOP OR CHECKWITH DRIVER, BUT YOU CAN ONLY TRAVEL IN ZONE 1 OF BUS.

For the definitive answer, go to the Transport for London site. That way, you'll not get conflicting/inaccurate information.
