I was rushed into a meeting where I was immediately introduced to several new people. I hadn't even had the chance to remove my scarf and gloves but didn't want to make these people wait with an out-stretched hand while I took off my garments. Was it rude of me to shake their hands with my gloves on? They were nice little leather ones, not frumpy old ones. Would it have been worse if they were a more casual type?

Queen Elizabeth always shakes hands wearing gloves, so it is most definitely not rude. She does this because she shakes an awful lot of hands and doesn't want to pickup an awful lot of germs-- neither does she wish to stop every few yards and use hand sanitizer.

I'm sure no one thought twice. If time allows, I'm certain that it would have been more appropriate to remove the gloves, but as you said, people were waiting, and I'm certain that it's worse to keep someone there waiting than it is to shake hands with a glove. Unless, of course, they're work gloves of some type and have nastiness on them....that's always a no-no.

I'm sure no one minded as in etiquette intention counts for quite a bit and now a days people are so casual in their manners anyway. I'm assuming you are more asking for future reference... and it's one of the odd things I remember from the deportment class I had in 7th grade. Yes, you should always remove your gloves before shaking hands indoors. The other was to remove your sun glasses when having a conversation with someone- which I have never seen anyone else do... although now I always feel rude if I leave them on.

Personally, I think it's fine to shake someone's hand with a glove on, especially if you have been rushed in. You wouldn't want to leave someone hangin' there, would ya? lol!

Also; No, it would not have been worse if they were a more casual type of gloves. Now, whoever shook your hand when you were wearing you glove with know that you have good taste in gloves!

Happy Holidays!

honestly no longer. contained in the old days, it replaced into acceptable for a lady to keep her gloves on at the same time as shaking fingers or assembly new human beings. I positioned on gloves each and each and every of the time and shake fingers with the gloves on. no one seems to care. in reality, if it truly is a pair of leather-depending gloves, I often locate human beings like the feel of the leather-depending at the same time as shaking my hand.

I would suggest if the other peson has gloves on also, this should be o/k; but, perhaps it would be better to spend a second or two and take off at least the one glove and offer a bare hand.

OK u r thinking WAAAAAAAAAY to much about this. U will be FINE! It is not that bad, as long as they were dry! Personally, I would rather shake hands withan old frumpy glove than a new leather one b/c that makes me feel bnelittled and POOR!

Don't worry about it... unless the glove was one of those edible grape candy gloves that got sticky juice all over the person's hand.

In doors you should remove gloves but if you are rushing I'm sure no one took offense.

I am pretty formal and I think you might be a little over concerned. This is not a real problem. Anybody who would have a problem with you avoid frost bite is not a person you should worry about.
