For starters, you shouldn't be moving the piercing around too much. Your lip is not like your ear. The only time you touch the area is to clean it. I suggest switching to using more sea salt soaks to clear up the crust. Use a wet q-tip to gently remove any built up crust and keep it from getting in the hole.

While using salt soaks, if your skin dries out around the piercing do not use lotion or moisturizer near the piercing. Do not pick at the dry skin either.
Brownish colored crust, while not bad is not all good either. Keep an eye on it and if it turns green or you notice heavy bleeding you should see your piercer. Its only been a week and a half, usually some crust will be present for 2-3 weeks at most. Stick with the salt soaks. Take Motrin or Midol...they'll help with some swelling (even if you are a guy, Midol works)

If the stuff on your jewelry is crusty, it's just a normal part of healing and you should be fine.
However, be sure to GENTLY clean the crusty stuff off, to be sure that it does not stay there and irritate your piercing, or perhaps get back into the hole.
Follow the instructions given to you by your piercer, and use Q-Tips if you need to, so that you can be gentle, but still clean it thoroughly.
If all else fails, you can stop by the place where you got it pierced, and I'm sure they would be happy to help you with any questions you may have! It's their job!!
Good luck :)

I just got my monroe pierced 4 weeks ago and make sure you do not touch your pierced without washing your hands that is a must!! the crusty stuff around the outside is completely normal just keep using your cleaning solution. I used saline contact solution and mine was healed a week and a half after i got it pierced i also used biotene mouthwash for rinsing the inside of my mouth to clean my piercing. your lip will still be a little tender and a bit swollen maybe till your second week. good luck i hope this helped :)

You do get crusty stuff on piercings. It's your body trying to heal the hole. Plus lip piercings usually take 6-8 weeks to heal properly.
Make sure your washing it regularly *(at leats three time a day) with rock or sea salt dissolved in clean water (best to boil it and then let it cool again for this). 1/4 teaspoon of salt to every 8 ounces of water is best.

Just get a lip piercing on the side. Not every girl is going to like that though, so if you're gonna get it get it cause YOU like it, not because you want other people to. I'd say just start with lip, then when that heals if you want it get your tongue done. I know a lot of straight guys with their tongue pierced, and I don't see anything wrong with it. But of course, their are gonna be a lot of people that hate it and tell you not to get it. In the end, it just comes down to you. Get what you want to get and don't get something because its what someone else wants you to get.

I was told by my piercier that you should never move your ring (or stud) around as it could get the nasty crusty stuff inside the hole, plus it tears up the new skin that is trying to form on the inside of the hole. Also, he told me to keep a toothbrush with me and pretty much after every meal brush around in there and make sure to get out any food particles. I'm pretty sure that the swelling is normal... it kind of depends on your body... I take Ibprofen to help control the swelling and make sure you always have CLEAN HANDS before you touch it!

Use sea salt on it. It's like a teaspoon to 1/2 a cup of water and warm it up a little. You can find it next to the iodized salt in your local grocery store. The sea salt draws out the infection. I know this remedy sounds really weird but I swear it works. I have peircings too.

Yeah that's normal, just keep cleaning it the way you have been (i'd suggest 1/4 teaspoon sea salt mixed with water).
It should be fine though!
