also when I first start accelerating the car feels like it is having trouble switching gears. Please tell me this is not my transmission.

55mph in overdrive should be less than 2000 RPM.

get to a transmission shop soon.

In the interim, pull the transmission dip stick and check fluid for level, color and graininess.

I'm sorry but it sure sounds like transmission problems. Have it cked and you might get away with a simple fluid and filter change to correct the problem. Don't wait or drive to long,this could cause burnning of the bands and in that case you need to rebuild/replace the transmission. good luck

Sounds like the trans is in limp in, which means that is is sensing a problem and it is why it doesn't seem to be shifting. When in limp in you only get 2nd,3rd park and reverse. is the check engine light on? It could be as simple as an input or output speed sensor or something internal. Hope this helps.

you car is not going into overdrive make shure overdrive is not tuned off
