My mom has a flat top stove and I have used it as well. She complains all of the time how hard it is to keep clean and how it doesn't heat very well and it takes forever to cook on it. Then there is the fact that if you slam anything down on the stove top to hard you could break the glass and then you are screwed. I personally LOVE gas stoves, they are the best thing to cook with. If you enjoy cooking and do a lot of it, I would recommend going that route.

We bought a house that has one in it and I DO NOT like it. First it shows scratches, also, you arent supposed to use it on high for long periods of time, so canning is a no-no ( I do anyway) and I love my cast iron skillets and you are not supposed to use them on it either, plus my boys leaned on the front edge of it and slightly bent it down and it separated slightly from the top, now liquids run into the indention and shorted out the electirical panel.

My mom got one when she moved into a new house, she loves it! She says cleanup is easy, and it seems to cook as well as any other stove top. It does require special cleaner though so you don't scratch it, but I believe that it is easy to find.

My mom does all the cooking and cleaning, but from what I see the flat top seems a lot easier to cook on and to clean, as opposed to our old standard top, which got buildup of food and crap like crazy, and cleaning it was all all day chore.

Way less cleaning. No holes or pans to scrub. All you need are the cleaner blades to scrap burned spots and silicone cleaner to brighten good as new.
