He's probably not expecting anything...but a card with a gift certificate works...either for shopping or dinner out. My parents retired and were never home, so I got them an answering machine. It was funny. Congrats to him, he'll be up and at em real soon.

What does he like to do when he is resting, is there a favorite old movie that he has not seen in a while, that would be nice to get for him. Would he like to go to a spa for a pampering treatment and thing that makes the body feel good I think is a good gift.

Maybe a wonderful, relaxing massage, or gift certificates to his favourite coffee place, because now he'll have the time to just sit and relax and read the daily paper.
