To be more specific...muscle DOES NOT weigh more than fat. One pound of muscle weighs the same as one pound of fat. But, as someone mentioned, muscle is more DENSE than fat, therefore, providing more weight per equal area of space. Therefore, gaining muscle mass will increase weight and assist with losing weight. The end results can be losing inches while maintaining the same weight. This is why using a scale is not a good tool.

Yes muscle is far more dense than fat. It also tends to build in areas that are not always measured (such as the upper chest and shoulders) and the fat leaves areas that are measured (waist and legs).
I started weight lifting - I actually gained 15 pounds but went down two inches in my waist size. But I had to move up a shirt size.

If you build muscle tissue, you will tighten up your muscles, and lose inches, however muscle weighs more than fat and you will likely stay the same or even gain a few pounds..Muscle building, like lifting weights, and other strength training exercises.

When you exercise you burn calories and gain muscle. Burning the calories is removing weight {inches} but at the same time you are building your muscles which is weight.
Basically you are losing weight and reforming your muscles, which is a good thing.

Regular exercise is the only way to reduce your body fat without reducing your muscle mass.

Diet is important, but in order to convert the food you eat into muscle instead of fat, you have to exercise at least 3 times a week.

Talk to a trainer and tell them what you want to do with your body (slim down, bulk up, pump up, etc.) They will recommend an exercise routine and diet that will get you to where you want to be.

Lose inches of fat, gain muscle weight. Muscle is heavier than fat.
