I don't recall making too many snide comments. Sarcastic, yes. Insulting, if need be. But I usually avoid going over the edge with what I say, especially since some people are eager enough as it is to slam the report button.

I agree with you -- "generally" -- I really do. But I noticed that you just joined the other day. Give yourself some time.
Some people ask questions that are so utterly, mind-bogglingly assinine that it takes all the control one can muster not to shout out "What is the matter with you, you brain-dead cow?" Thus far, I'm proud to say, I've resisted the temptation; but I can easily see how others slip up.
Give yourself a month ot two of reading some of the questions that pop-up, and maybe you'll see things in a different light.
Cheers, mate.

Where I've seen what you're describing comes from questions that are disguised opinions or disguised rants. The population answering is smart enough to recognize these questions and responds with the respect the question is due.

Because it makes them feel smart or important.
Especially answers like "Is there a question in here?"
Of course, there are times when the question is so obviously confrontive that it is difficult to not respond in kind.

Usually it is the less intelligent individuals who respond with the name calling, it does not take any skill to insult someone any child can do it. The best thing to do especially when you notice insulting questions is to pass it, most of these people are just trying to bait you to respond on their level.

Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one, and here people feel that this is more of an anonymous setting and they can get away with typing things they normally wouldn't say in the real world. It makes their egos feel big.
