My son has had a Teddy bear since he was 4 months and would sleep with it and take it everywhere, the problem is it is now LOST and he crys for it all the time. I found one on E-bay just like it, and it should be here next week.so my question is how should I give it to him, I'm not sure if he will know that it is not his. So maybe some of you have gone through this and might be able to give some advise on the matter. Thanks If you have any question send me an e-mail

If the condition is very different from the bear he was used to, your son will likely notice it's not his bear. In that case I would recommend that you introduce Bear #2 as Bear #1's brother or cousin. You can say that Bear #1 had to go away for a time but misses your son and didn't want your son to be sad so he sent his cousin/brother etc. to be with your son in his place.

Well be aware that he will know it's not his. Even if it's so identical you can't tell the difference, he will, I think it's a smell factor. You didn't mention how old he is now, so I don't know how well he'd respond to talking about it, but I would say don't try to slip it to him and pretend it's his, he'll just feel betrayed and lied to. If he's old enough to understand i would sit down with him, talk about how special the bear was and how all of you are sad that its gone, but that you found one like it and ask if he wants it. Be prepared that he might not want it, it's not HIS. And be careful no matter how you approach it. It sounds weird I know, but kids can sometimes get the idea "well if they can get a new bear can they get a new me?" and get scared. Good luck.

Try to slip it to him after he's gone to sleep, tuck it under his arm. Or you could say that you just found it in the back of a closet, under the bed, hidden in the couch, etc. If the new substitute doesn't look as worn as the old, cherished one, try washing it a few times inside a pillow case or a nylon mesh bag then dry it carefully in the same container in the dryer on a low heat. You might have to dry it a few times to get it completely dry.

I went through something similar with my daughter when she was young, do you have any idea how hard it is to find an exact likeness of a favorite Lambchop? I do. EBay wasn't around back then! Good luck.

I would put it in a place where he finds the Teddy bear, and see if he thinks it is his old teddy bear. Never gone through this, but this might help him having solved his own problem... With a little help from Moms.

let him find it in your house or car let him be the hero even though your doing a good thing for him. That what my husband and I did when our 4 yr. old left his on a plane by accident, we let him find a new one in our suit case when we got home. It worked out well for my son and I hope it can help you. Good luck!

Maybe explain to him this is your teddybears friend he wants you to love him as much as you did your old one. If he dont understand than I dont see why its a problem if he dont know its the new one.

If that doens't work, you could always take him shopping and let him pick out his own bear or whatever.

Maybe Santa could leave it for him in his stocking with a note that he found it for him?
