i already have windows 98 on the computer i have now. a friend of mine gave me the windows 2000 professional with service pack . what i need to know is do i need to take it to a professional or can i do it myself?

I think you can do it yourself, just follow the instructions that came with it, or if you dont have instructions just put the cd thing in and I think you will be able to do it.

Unless you are trying to get the "business application strengths" out of Windows 2000.... you are actually better off sticking with Win98.

Win2000 had one very big problem; it failed to keep up with the necessary drivers for many applications and hardware installs.

WinXP...... especially WinXP Pro.......
It has the strengths of 2000 (crashes FAR less than both 98 and 2000 combined), and the strengths of 98 (software/ hardware compatibility).

If your friend also gave you the registration code key so you can make it legal, there are several ways of doing this. Check this link for some very helpful information on loading 2000.
