we have twin five year old boys. my wife is out of town caring for her mother for a few days. yesterday i was making their breakfest and poured them a bowl of cereal. i went to go shave and get ready for work and get them off to school. when i came back into the kitchen they were both crying. i said, "what on earth is wrong with you two?" they said that i poured the milk wrong!!...WHAT??...so i called my wife and sure enough you have to pour damons milk clockwise and dillons milk counter clockwise...i said, "you are completely out of your mind"...OMG...has my wife lost her mind???

Sounds like your wife is a good mom, if you ask me! Meal time and getting ready for the day-to-day routine can be very monotonous, unless you keep it interesting. Sounds like she found some way to keep them focused, and something to look forward to (as trivial as it seems). Probably started as a game, then wound up making them each feel individual and special.

Sounds cute, simple and fun! Yay MOM!

LOL I'm sorry but I'm a stay at home Mom of an 8 year old and a 4 year old both boys. Your wife has lost her mind!!!!!! I wouldn't let my kids throw a tantrum over something so small!! Crying and screaming are for big problems not you poured my milk the wrong way. If they freak over little things like this what is going to happen with the big things, the things that are really a problem?

Sorry if I was too harsh, if my kids cried over something like this I think I would laugh. My boys are kind but tough strong boys they wouldn't cry over their milk being poured the wrong way.

To be home with children all day you want to make it as easy as possible so if they like there milk poured this way then so be it. some kids have to have the peanut butter on top of the jam not the other way around or it doesn't taste right i know just turn it the right way before giving it to them but that's what makes them kids.
I imagine having twins is that much more stressful at times and it also gives them a sense of individuality. Your wife has not lost her mind she just wants everyone to be happy.
I suggest you phone her again and ask if there are any other little quarks that they prefer before you go insane.

HEH! I know exactly what you are talking about, I am the mother of a five year old with twin five year old step-boys (yes i am loosing my hair lol). They are not identical but they are surely very picky! Its not that your wife is loosing her mind, shes trying to keep her sanity. Allowing a few "kids rules" helps sort out the balance of the day. So that they don't have a bad day, especially in school, she has chosen to allow the kids to have what they want to give their day some stability and to make her morning go by a bit smoother.

And what mother doesn't want her day to go by smooth?

Kids can be so picky like that. My 5 year old likes his milk poured first before the cereal goes in the bowl if it is the other way around he throws a fit. Well not crying in all but he does not like it like that..

Understand that as twins they need their self-esteem boosted up a little. Imagine having someone like you, with you all the time. Those little habits works wonders with them.

repetition is important for children. they like things to be the same so they can count on everything they like to know whats going to happen next. the little things are important. good luck...sounds like those two are going to give u a run for your money!

No she not that usually the only way to get little kids to eat you have to make up "fun" games for them!

kids need stability and they look/want consistancy and etc etc... xure it sounds crazy-- but to them it's like a security blanket of sorts-- especially since mom is out of town. or maybe they both have ocd =)
