More people do it than you think...especially those who are in the military and get married by the JP while on leave. If in a few years you decide that you want to have a traditional ceremony in a church, go for it!! Invite close family and friends to the ceremony and then have a larger reception with everyone.

First off...CONGRADULATIONS!!! I would just consider what the ceremony is for. It is to exchange vows, and to become one. You have expressed this to one another, and now it is time to live. If you want to renew your vows later, I think that would be great, but maybe just throw a big, belated, reception bash! That way, everyone can celebrate with you, and it will be less costly. The wedding and reception can start you two off with a debt.

I actually had two sets of friends do this. They got married before the guy went to Iraq (bigger paychecks!) and then came home for a big wedding 2 years later. It was fine because we all knew why they got married beforehand.

yes, and yes:) We are renewing our vows on our 10 year anniversary because we had a very quick, two week engagement for similar reasons. We were going to do it for our 5 year, but I was 7 months pregnant on our 5 year anniversary, lol. So, we are doing it for our 10 year.

That was your wedding, whatever the circumstances and however it was celebrated. You should not want to diminish that by having something else. At your tenth anniversary, have a vow renewal ceremony, maybe.

I think it is a great idea to have the wedding of your dreams. My grandaughter had her wedding planned and her fiancee had to go to Iraq and they got married by a Justice of the peaace and then waited a year till he returned and had their beautiful planned wedding.

it wouldn't be a wedding, but a vow renewal and it would be a wonderful idea and i'm sure your family and friends would love to be there to see it.
