They are celebrating it on Saturday because that was the original day of sabbath as you pointed out. They consider the change of the Christian church from Saturday to Sunday (Christ rose on Sunday and it is the first day of the week) to be illegitimate. Their point is that the Bible does not require the change therefore, it should not take place.

You are correct about the times of the Jewish Sabbath. The Christian Church from the very beginning has met on Sunday, the Lord's Day. In the mid 19th century, a preacher decided he knew more about it than anyone else, and started his own church and met on Saturday. Thus, the Seventh Day Adventists.

They don't boast as you say they do, or at least from my experience they don't. They take the Sabbath very privately in their own devotions, they don't go around saying, "I'm following the Sabbath, you aren't, I'm following 10 of the Commandments you're just following nine". As to your question, at least they keep the Sabbath tradition on Saturday, even if they keep the Sabbath for just a 18 hour period or whatever, it is still more than most Christians whose "Sabbath" is from 10 to 11 am on Sunday morning, then they go home, watch football, etc etc.

I agree with spotlite, you really have to do some reading in the Bible for this one. Some believe that when Jesus died he changed the sabbath, because it was "distasteful to us" they quote a passage in the Bible (I can't remember which one it is), but they take it out of context.
I highly doubt that the original sabbath was distasteful to anyone, I think what really went away when Jesus died was the distasteful animal sacrifices, because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice on the cross.
Now the Day of the Sun was "Sun-day" and was a pagan thing, and when the Roman church wanted more followers, they incorporated pagan things into their church to convert the pagans, because they wouldn't be giving up much, just using different names. So the Roman church changed the sabbath. (who knows what else they changed we don't know about, they have all the original scripts!). Don't take my word for it though, read about it, the more you read, the more you understand. That's why I'm on Yahoo!. Good luck!

well it is in the BIBLE THAT God rested on the seventh day and hallowed it. read genesis about the 7th dah day. and if u consider that GOD wrote the 10 commandments in stone with HIS OWN FINGER, u can see that they were very important to HIM. and if you read that the 4th commandment says remember the sabbath day to keep it holy, it means it was in place long ago like at creation... so it isn't a jewish holiday. it is GOD'S HOLIDAY. and if you read in ht enew testament JESUS kept the sabbath as was HIS custom.. and some think HE broke the sabbath but HE defined it and revealed the hipocracy of the leaders of the day. remember JESUS said ' before Abraham was I AM' HE WAS THE I AM WHO WROTE THE 10 COMMANDMENTS.. Because the 7th day Adventists have followed the false prophetess Ellen White and fallen from grace into legalism like the Galatians of old, that's why.
Galatians 5:1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. 2Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
Circumcision and Sabbath keeping were Old Testament laws designed to point to the circumcision of the heart and the rest from trying to be justified by keeping the law that believers can now find in Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit who sanctifies us.

Seventh-Day Adventist do not think that we are better than others because we keep the Sabbath. We tell others about the Sabbath because that was what the Bible and Jesus said to do.
"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
Matt 5:9
The truth is the Sabbath is still in effect and God expects His followers to REMEMBER to keep it Holy.
There are a lot of UNBIBLICAL beliefs on the Sabbath for example "The Sabbath is done away with." or "The Sabbath was only for the Jews" and below I hope that I can help clear it up using the Bible.
1)"Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Suday morning and fufilled all scripture"
Matt 5:17
"Do NOT THINK that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I HAVE NOT come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
does fulfil mean do away with or end
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to do away with them.
2)"so Sunday is the new Sabbath."
NO verse in the Bible ever calls Sunday the new Sabbath.
NO verse in the Bible ever says worship on Sunday because of the resurrection.
NO verse in the Bible says that Jesus did away with the Sabbath(Saturday)
3)"legalism "
Is it legalistic to honor your parents?
Is it legalistic not to murder?
Is it legalistic not to worship other gods?
If the above answers are no then why is it legalistic to keep the Sabbath?
If God tells you to do something and you do it, is that legalism or obedience?
The reason sin is in the world is because God gave a command and someone did not do it.
Eve: God told us not to eat the fruit
Snake(Satan): Eat the fruit, why are you being legalistic?
Sabbath keepers: God told us to REMEMBER to keep the Sabbath
SUNday keepers: FORGET the Sabbath, Why are you being legalistic?
Abel: Hey Cain you know God said He wanted an animal sacrifice, right?
Cain: Look Abel as long as I give a sacrifice God doesn't care, stop being legalistic.
Sabbath Keepers: You know God said Keep the Sabbath, right?
SUNday keepers: Look as long as I have a day of worship God doesn't care, stop being legalistic.
Does it matter how we worship God?
Doing what God says is not legalism it is obedience, and if people did what God said things would go a lot better
"O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and KEEP ALL my commandments ALWAYS, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!" - GOD Deuteronomy 5:29
Sin is the transgression of the law.
"To OBEY is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." I Samuel 15:22
Are we saved by keeping the Commandments? NO
But no one wil enter the Kingdom of God knowingly and willfully breaking God's commands.
"For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES." Hebrews 10:26
"Why do you call me Lord, Lord and DO NOT the things that I say" Luke 6:46
"He that saith, 'I know him' and keepeth NOT His commandments, is a LIAR, and the truth is not in him." I John 2:4
4)"You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ;"
Correct we are not justified by keeping the law we are justified by Jesus who says "If you love me KEEP my Commandments." John 14:15
5) Jesus rose from death on Sunday, so the Christian church ( then the believing Jews) changed the day of worship.
Please produce one verse where the early church says "We are changing the day of worship to Sunday. People always say this yet NO one in almost 2000 yrs yas EVER given ONE verse to support it
The early church met on the Sabbath day(Saturday)
The apostles kept the Sabbath
Acts 13:14
Acts 13:42
Acts 13:44
Acts 16:13
Acts 17:2
Acts 18:4
the Gentiles went to Church on Sabbath
Acts 13:42
Acts 17:1-4
Acts 18
7)"You are correct about the times of the Jewish Sabbath"
There is no such thing as "The Jewish Sabbath" the 7th day Sabbath does not belong to the Jews it belongs to God "I am Lord of the Sabbath" Jesus said. In addition "The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord" Exodus 20:8-11
Not to mention it was given to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden 1000 yrs before the first jew was born Genesis 2:1-3
8)"The Christian Church from the very beginning has met on Sunday, the Lord's Day."
Again, not one verse to support this claim, nor is there any verse in the Bible calling Sunday the Lord's Day. the only day called the Lord's day is the Sabbath(Saturday)
Exodus 20:8
Isa 58:13,14
Matthew 12:8
Mark 2:28
Luke 6:5
Provide one verse that calls Sunday the Lord's Day
Is observing the Sabbath a Seventh-Day Adventist teaching?
What do ministers of the different Faiths say?
Presbyterian:
“Until, therefore, it can be shown that the whole moral law has been repealed, the Sabbath will stand… The teaching of Christ confirms the perpetuity of the Sabbath” - T.C. Blake D.D. Theology Condensed
Catholic:
“You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day we never sanctify.” - James Cardinal Gibbons
Catholic:
“Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did happened in the first century(actually 200yrs later). The holy day, the Sabbath , was changed from Saturday to Sunday… not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power…PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT THE SCRIPTURES SHOULD BE THE SOLE AUTHORITY SHOULD LOGICALLY BECOME SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS, AND KEEP SATURDAY HOLY .” –Saint Catherine Catholic Church Sentinel, May 21. 1995
Baptists:
“There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath was not Sunday. … It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week… Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament- absolutely not. There is NO SCRIPTURAL EVIDENCE of the change of the Sabbath institution from the seventh to the first day of the week.”- Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, Baptist Manual
Pentecostal:
“Why do we worship on Sunday? Doesn’t the Bible teach us that Saturday should be the Lord’s Day?... Apparently we will have to seek the answer from some other source than the New Testament.” David A Womack, “Is Sunday the Lord’s Day?”
Lutheran:
“The observance of the Lord’s day [Sunday] is founded not on any command of God, but on the authority of the church.” – Augsburg Confession of Faith,
