Does anyone else have a problem with this? I can't believe that someone can die for this country and then not be allowed to have their religions emblem on their grave. As a Wiccan, who's husband is currently serving in the military, I find this appalling. I wonder what would happen if, say, Christians weren't allowed to have crosses on theirs.

I would hope that it's obvious that I'm not just complaining. By posting this I'm attempting to make others out there aware of this issue.

It's got nothing to do with being cost effective. Take a look at all of the other emblems that are recognized. There are several on there that either have the same number of people in the military, a less number or none at all.

What does being buried next to a pagan symbol have to do with anything? Do Christians have a problem with all of the other non-Christian emblems on the list? Again with the money. Who do you think pays for military personnel to have miltary burials, to be buried in Arlington, etc.? Do you seriously think that Christians are responsible for paying for that?

I just read about this today and the plaque was placed on Dec 2nd and that the VA officials are currenly rewriting the rules for approving emblems.

Wiccans are regarded as a fringe element and most Christians don't want to be buried next to what they consider a pagan symbol. Also, most of the people doing the paying for all of this are Christians (or at least associate themselves with that) as well.

You should stand up and take some action if you don't like current policy. People have to realize sooner or later that it is not enough to merely complain. They have to act. If you are offended and upset by the military's policy about Wiccan symbols, I suggest you organize a group of like-minded people. Then, on the eve of the third full moon, gather in the woods for the naked dancing, group orgy, or tree-worshipping that you believe passes for religion. Maybe the spirit of the north wind will come to your assistance. Maybe Gaia herself will open her powerful maw and swallow up those evil Christians.

I totally agree.
Unfortunately the minds of the general populace have been "poisoned" by centuries of teaching that ours is a devil cult. Where most of us don't believe in that being.
We are supposed to have freedom of religion in this country and allowing the placing of all religious symbols on graves should be permitted.
Blessed be.

I always imagined that it was more a matter of demand and cost more than anything else.

Of course, if one wants to pay for their own headstone in their own grave in a private cemetery, then this isn't a problem.

Hindus sometimes worship a phallic object knownb as a "lingam" which is holy for them. Would you like a dick next to your husbands grave?

It should be allowed, even though wicca is a false religion, you have the right to believe it if you want.
