The home made taste better, this is a recipe for which I won a prize and is in several cook books and comes with a surprise.
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Blend in a medium bowl 1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind. Then beat in 1 egg and 2 tablespoons milk. Stir in 2 cups sifted Gold Medal Flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon soda. Drop rounded spoonfuls on a greased cookie sheet, grease a glass bottom dip in sugar and flatten each cookie. Sprinkle with nutmeg and bake 8 to 10 minutes until light golden. Makes 3 dozen cookies. Now the surprise!

This is a little variation of the original sugar cookie. It is a chocolate sugar cookie.
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
additional sugar
Microwave chocolate and margarine in large microwavable bowl on high 2 minutes or until margarine is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Stir 1 cup sugar into melted chocolate mixture until well blended. Stir in egg and vanilla until completely blended. Mix in flour, baking soda and salt. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Heat oven to 375 F. Shape dough into 1″ balls; roll in additional sugar.Alternately, roll out to 1/4″ thick and cut with cookie cutters. Place, 2″ apart, on ungreased cookie sheets. (If flatter, crisper cookies are desired, flatten balls with bottom of drinking glass.) Bake 8-10 minutes or until set. Remove from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks. Decorate with icing and sprinkles, if desired.

this weekend I did this and they turned out perfect. Buy 3 small rolls of refrigerated cookie dough. Allow to soften (2 or 3 hours). Open, drop into a bowl and knead 1.5 tsp almond extract into them. Then add abotu 1/2 c flour and knead that in. Roll, cut and bake as directed. Make sure to take out as soon as the bottom barely browns to keep them soft and yummy. These cookies are great and you can not tell they arent completely homemade.

I hosted a baby shower 2 weeks ago. I bought the Pillsbury dough in the plastic tube and baked them. Then I set out a tray with icing and sprinkles and turned it into a craft. I let everyone decorate their own cookie, and then they could eat it. They had so much fun.

Use the break and bake stuff in the refrigerator section of your grocery store.
It's quick and easy. You can get the ones that come in shapes too and decorate them if you like!

Buy the betty crocker prepackaged sugar cookie mix. They taste just as good as homemade! Don't buy that refrigerated stuff, it doesn't taste as good.
