Yet it doesnt show signs of acidity, i.e. there is no discoloration of basins or tubs and no corrosion evident anywhere. Can water have a low ph without being acidic ?

Rain water is naturally acidic due to the gaseous nitrogen mixed with it in that atmosphere. Generally tap water is a little acidic as well due to rain water or certain minerals in the ground where the supply comes from. Acidic water will be very clear because organisms do not prefer to live in it. The only way water is discoloured is it contains many dissolved minerals, then it will discolour the tub or sink. There are tests that can be done to check the quality called a kA and a pH one tests dissolved minerals and their other tests how acidic it is. I prefer slightly acidic water due to the fact that it is more palatable. Some acidic or highly basic water has high dissolved minerals due to the corrosive nature of the water. You cannot have a low pH with out being acidic. The pH test is a direct test to identify how acidic the water is. However the amount of dissolved minerals will some times buffer the acidic or corrosive actions of the water. I thin your water is perfect for house hold use and for drinking. However it you do decide to get a pet fish, you will most definitely have to get a pH balance kit from your local pet store or buy fish that like acidic water like some tropical amazon fish.
