Take away all the bullsh it like we can choose where we are going to go today and what clothes were going to wear crap like that. While doing research on the topic I came across some very interesting arguments on wether or not we have free will. One was our free will is proof that god does not exist. Another was free will cannot exist if predestination exist what we call free will would be limited to it's divine plan. God gave us free will but it is through his infinite understanding so we are more like characters in a book it seems like we have free will but really it is all part of God's will. I don't know who or what God is or if he even exist. So, if we do have free will it seems like it will always be shaped by society. It seems like in way we will never truely have free will.

God has given us free will. He desires all of us be saved. But He knows all about us, and what we will do and choose (this is the predestination part). He knows it and has seen what we will do. But we are living it, so we don't know and are free to make decisions for ourselves. (God is outside of time and can move through it so to speak).

Somehow free will consistently gets bumped up against double predestination which is not taught in the Bible nor does it have anything to do with Calvinism that does not believe in free will. Man is inherently sinful and cannot of his own accord choose his salvation. God must intervene and does so through predestination and election. God does NOT cause the reprobate to sin and therefore be predestined to hell. We simply do this to ourselves.

I believe that we have free will within a predestined universe. This is a necessity for universal salvation; which I also believe in. However, the concept of a predestined universe is not dependent on a belief in god.

Ahh! Gory hallelujah! Finally someone who actually stops and thinks about what is going on in this world. As you can see from the above posters, ignorance is a prime factor for the worlds ill. A lot of people don't want to be bothered with the facts. If they know what was really going on, and how it effects us all they'd have to do something. Something that might be difficult for them to do. Lazy bastards! This is for anyone who has brains : 1) Find out what animals living near you are listed on the endangered species list. Spend some time learning about the animals and what their preferred habitat is. 2)Contribute to nature reserves and other wilderness areas. Habitat preservation is one of the best ways to help protect endangered animals. You can donate money or volunteer your time helping the nature reserve preserve habitat. 3)Buy environmentally friendly goods. Choose non-toxic cleaners and lawn care items that won't pollute streams, rivers or oceans. Avoid any products that have been made from threatened or endangered animals. Buy foods and goods that are made from materials that do not harm endangered animals or their habitat. For example, look for organic chocolate, coffee or cotton clothing that is grown without cutting down rainforests or destroying habitat. 4)Create or restore habitat for endangered animals. You can volunteer to help with projects worldwide designed to reestablish habitat. In your own backyard, plant a butterfly garden, use native plants and trees and let "wild" areas grow to provide habitat and food. JC- Bo is saying to get rid of zoos but and I quote "On those occasions when animals must be kept in captivity (i.e. those who have been born into captivity or are unable to be rehabilitated) a zoo situation is still far from ideal. Far better are facilities like non-profit animal sanctuaries, where the emphasis is on the animals themselves, not on profits"

Free will is not the destructive force. The destructive force is when some see their free will should preclude other's free will and judges the others harshly due to their not wanting to believe or follow the same path.

If we get rid of the petty judgements, then we become peaceful.

There is some free will for some situations and your conscience limits the choice because some are bad choices to make or would make no sense. People could beat up people who are weaker than them if they wanted, but if their kind then they wouldn't want to because it's not something they would like doing.

You're right... there is no free will if an all-knowing and all-powerful God exists, and apologists will dance around that.

We should live as if we have free will. We should live as if we know that the choices we make have consequences.
