I have found that Target's bakery makes wonderful birthday cakes and has a great selection of themed ones (Elmo, Bob the Builder, Barbie...you get the point) as well as custom made options for you. They are super moist and you can choose between whipped or traditional frosting. I have always been pleased with them there, in fact, I am picking up my son's Starwars cake from Target for his party on Saturday.

If you get one from Wal-Mart, make sure you pick it up early and check it before you pay for it. We had our son's cake done there and they did a horrible job on the wording..it looked like a 2 year old wrote it. They ended up giving us our money back. This also happened again with our son's birthday cake the following year and they scraped off the lettering and redid it, also refunding our money.

Just watch out for them..ask about their cake decorator..if they are new or how good they are.

The best cakes are from Costco

I don't know how many of them are around, but Bashas grocery store did a WONDERFUL job on my son's cake 2 weeks ago

I was very disappointed with Walmart's cake I got my son last year for his birthday, it looked great but didn't taste very good

Depends on where you live.. BJ's or Sam's Club normally have good cakes. My local grocery store (Giant Eagle) have really tasty cakes and they have all different themes. If all else fails, try a local bakery....Itailan bakeries or polish/slovenian bakeries nornally have FANTASTIC cakes, although they may get pricey! Good Luck!

the local grocery store usually has the small ones shaped like dinoaurs and stuff like that. They are cute and different and they are small enough for the one year old. You could one of those for them to destroy and then you could just buy a sheet cake for people to eat
