I Couldn't tell for sure but I think it was a boiler maker. that is typically shot of whiskey in a half s glass of beer.
There are also Jager bombs, Irish Car Bombs, Lunch Boxes and beer in a barrel that are good drinks.
A jager bomb is a shot of jagermeister dropped onto red bull not Guinness.
An Irish car bomb as a half shot of Jameson Irish whiskey and a half shot of Baileys Irish cream mixed together and dropped in a half glass of Guinness
A Lunch box is a shot of amaretto dropped in a half glass of beer and orange juice mixed together
A beer in a barrel is a shot of root beer schnapps dropped into a half glass of beer.
the reason you usually use a half glass of beer is so it does not have a reaction that overflows the beer because some people cant drink them that quickly. also to not dilute the taste too much.
there is one more called a red headed slut but all I can remember is jarermeister but i cant think what you drop it in to

They are usually called boiler-makers. Any alcoholic beverage that uses a seperate shot glass and is inserted into another glass with liquid is called a boiler maker.
A couple popular ones where I'm from are:
1 half pint/pint of guiness stout
1 shot bailys irish creme
insert bailys into glass of guiness
the bailys curdles and is pretty gross
chug it down
you have just had a Irish Car Bomb
Dr.Pepper
1 shot of ammeretto
half pint of drought beer
insert shot into glass of beer
Voila, a tasty Dr.Pepper for you to chug and enjoy!

The name of the drink changes depending on the alcohol used. I know that whiskey and beer is a boilermaker, jager and Guinness is an Irish car bomb, one frosty mug of beer. One shot glass 50/50 amaretto and ever clear is a Flaming Dr. Pepper. So like I said before, it all depends on the alcohol.
