I have had good luck with Olympus.. They make the lenses for most of the other manufacturers.
Go for at least 5 megapixels, optical zoom (not digital zoom), and long battery life..The advantage of using AA batteries over a built in one are ; The batteries are cheaper to start with and if you are away from home and run out you can always purchase regular
AA's. If you decide to go with AA's., buy a camera that uses 4 batteries, not 2.. The little motor that moves the lens in and out for optical zoom is a battery hog.
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN WITH YOUR NEW TOY/.

The best makes are canon, nikon and samsung i think, i have a nikon but that was well over $200. Look on some price comparison sites, if not, a well known technology company might have some good deals on for christmas, i live in the uk, so would not know about any american stores, but optical zoom and a high megapixal is essential, also you want a good lens, so a removable one so you can change it is also good! thanks

I've always preferred a camera maker making a digital camera....That's because the ENGINEERS have a good Solid background in PHOTOGRAPY.....and if you want GOOD photos, you want a good photographic background to see any shortcomings in operation/design.

That's why I own 2 Kodaks....the original camera-maker.

Canon...High Quality optics just like Kodak...

Pentax....welllllll they're foreign made many years ago...they rode in on stealing American technology back in the 40's and now have good cameras....but they stole it when they were a young company. And I remember those things....so it's KODAK and CANON for me.......
