I agree with 1 hour-1 1/2 hours if you ask your driver to use the elevated tollway. The tollway fees are modest (compared to the fees for using the evelvated tollways in other countries eg Tokyo) and it is normal for the customer to pay these as it is at their request that the driver is directed to use the tollway system. If you don't use the tollway system figure on an extra 1/2 hour to 1 hour, or more if you hit rush-hour traffic.

as someone said before, it very much depends on where in bangkok you will be heading from and what time of day.
i live in the west, at the border of bangkok and go to ayutthaya for daytrips quite often. my aged car doesnt go faster than 90 km/h or 55 mph (that road is one of the worst in central thailand, too) - it took me 70 minutes last month and because of some road construction (finally) i spent 90 minutes the other week.
if you start from banglampu (kao san road) add 20 minutes if taking the elevated highway out of town. if leaving from silom/sathorn take thaksin bridge, an extra 20 minutes max.
if you start from sukhumvit you picked the wrong place - just getting out of town might take you well over an hour...

Ayudhya is approximately 100 km from Bangkok. If you leave early morning say 6.00 am. or earlier to avoid rush hour and drive at speed around 120-130 kph on the highway, you may reach there in 1 hour if not spare 0.5-1 more hour for heavy traffic during rush hours.

With a Thai guide, expect about an hour and half to get there. Once on the elevated highway, it should be smooth going.

Try mapquest.com it should cover your area.
If not, then try expedia.com they cover a lot of different places too.
Just be aware of the fact that if the guide knows the roads he may take a route that isn't covered by either site and it could confuse you. If he's driving, you'll just have to trust him to get you there.
