You probably installed third party software that replaced the Media Center's native decoder. Please download & run this utility from Microsoft to show you which decoders are present on your system.

The utility will also tell you which are compatable with Media Center & allows you to choose a default decoder.

If this fails you may have to resort to a system restore.
