Southwest has the friendliest flight attendants. If you don't mind the "cattle call" seating (no reserved seats).
They are not the cheapest though, as many others think. They can be if you book 2 or more weeks in advance. But inside of that timeframe - they are same or more expensive than the other majors.
American and America West / U.S. Airways and Delta have the best customer service, easy websites to negotiate, and best Freq. Flyer Mile programs.
United and Northwest Airlines -- most difficult to deal with.

To me, the best airline, at least in America is Midwest Airlines. Their 717 aircraft are set up completely in a business class layout and their fares are competitive for a bigger seat. Flown them more than any other airline. Also, Midwest's service is great. There are fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on board on flights after 10 a.m. and the Mader's food, even though you have to pay for it, is excellent and worth every penny.

I agree with Gerald J. I think Singapore Airlines has the best service in the industry with Cathay Pacific in second place. Emirates is closing that gap with innovative cabin service.

This question was raised before. To me it is Singapore Airlines for its young fleet, good service, excellent entertainment and punctuality. It is also efficiently served by the best airport in the world - Changi Airport, its home base.

I don't think you can beat either Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airlines, they are consistently ranked number 1 and number 2 in the world, their business and 1st class are unbelievable, and one should check out the new 1st and business class on either airline. 23" lcd tv's, personal closets, double wide seats, Shanghai Tang pajamas, turn-down service on their double wide full flat beds, and on and on. I've flown on over 20 different airlines, and Cathay and Singapore, to me, are unbeatable.

without a doubt for me it has to be singapore airlines
I have flown with quite a few airlines but this is the only one that goes out of its way to make you comfortable and happy.
