I have gained this weight over the course of a year due to low motivation, depression over my mom dying, and having to take hormones.

Prior to having this problem, I was involved in heavy weightlifting and jogging. At 5'7", this helped me maintain my weight. I weighed 150-155 pounds at the time, but I was a Size 6/8. I probably need to ease back in those exercises again (i.e., start off by walking and start with moderate weights before resuming what was my normal routine).

I am sorry to hear about your mom.

The most weight that you can lost is about 1-2 pound per week safely (assuming that you did everything right). Remember, quick weight loss is not a permanent weight loss.

There are about 3,000 calories per pound of fat. Basically, you want to burn/reduce 3,000 calories to burn one pound of fat. You can decrease your calorie intake by 250 per day and exercise to burn another 250 per day. That will be a total of 500 calories per day.

Take it slow and do not get discourage. It does take some time to lose 40-50 pounds but it is definelty do-able. It can take your many months or even years.

You want to spend some time in these category.

Resistance training

Moderate aeorbic training

Proper nutrition

There is really no short-cut to weight loss. You have to work hard for it but it will be worth it at the end.

Good luck,
Arnel
