I'm a bit fun and playful - do you think it'll work?

Questions like these are almost impossible to answer:
1. How old are you?
2. How old is he?
3. What exactly do you mean when you ask "do you think it'll work?" Marriage? Sex?

That is an excellent question.
It's so hard to define how a guy acts when he is around someone he likes because every guy is different. Some are more playful, others tease you, others are straight out flirty. You see it all depends. Most likely you always get a feeling. There is just something that gives you that hint.
A guy can be funny and silly and still be mature. However, if they are always preoccupied with lowbrow humor, that's probably a sign of immaturity. Not a definite sign, but a possible one. They need to be able to have an intelligent conversation, behave in public when it's required, and commit to a girl when the relationship has potential. Morals and ambition, like you mentioned, are also very important. I think you're fine :-) Just make sure that you are comfortable being yourself instead of always trying to impress people with your sense of humor.

To my own view no guy that is too mature for any lady, as far as I am concerned I believed that no matter how mature is a guy no lady he doesn't feet to. Because that type will even handle a lady carefully in times of fiinancial, material things and caring, however if you notice that he is not a good guy, that is different case, so you can quite. But most mature guy handles case with maturity which is what every human need.

Things go far beyond seriousness and playfulness.
Do you know this guy very well? Have you known him for long? Do you have many fields of similarity or of difference?
If you feel that he may encrouch upon allowing you to be who you are then it might not quite work out so smoothly but frankly you have given far too little information. ^_^;;; Good luck either way and take things one step at a time.
