Either is fine for a healthy diet. Just make sure you're eating whole grain/whole wheat bread and brown rice. Both of these options are high in fiber and will make you feel full faster and longer than the white counterparts. Bread that says "brown" or "whole wheat" are not necessarily 100% whole wheat. Make sure it says "whole grain" on the label. Each slice should have at least 3 gms of dietary fiber in it.

Also, read your bread labels carefully. Often there are added sugars in it. High fructose corn sweetener, molasses, raisin juice from concentrate are all common sugars in bread. A good choice of bread is Milton's 100% Whole Grain wheat bread. You can buy it in any grocery store.

If you're concerned about calories, brown rice has about 200 calories per cup (cooked) in it. 2 slices of whole grain, whole wheat bread has about 180 calories, depending on the size of the slice. They're close enough to be a wash.

Good for you for wanting to change to a healthier diet. :)

For me it would be the rice. But, it would have to be Doongara or Basmati rice because they are the lowest in G.I. and therefore make you feel full and KEEP you feeling full for a few hours. Brown bread is o.k. but mixed grain bread is much better for you, for the same reason as I quoted for the rice. I would eat the rice and veg with a fork and make it last a LONG time!! Good luck
