The first letter I type in word is automatically changed to a capital letter.How do I switch off this function so the first word is in lower case?

1. On the “Tools” menu, click “Autocorrect Options”.

2. Clear the “Capitalize first letter of sentences” check box.

generally the first word you type is going to be the start of a sentence, therfore begins with a capital letter.

It's not only word 03 that does it, all MS Word versions do.

You can however after you type the word, click on the undo button and the capital letter will return to lower case

At the top, click on Format, then Auto Format. In the bottom left hand of that box click on Options and then it will give you several tabs of auto-formatting you can change. You will want to go to AutoCorrect and un-check the items that you don't want to happen.

in your auto correct area - untick the option

Insert menu - Autocorrect - auto correct tab - untick whatever you dont want

If you only want to turn it off for a particular sentence - click on the undo button
