Ideally, I'd rather be with someone who is some of the things I am, and some of the things I'm not. Exactly like me is not good, since I have some disastrous habits, and completely opposite runs the risk of not having enough in common to sustain the relationship.
Ultimately, I believe a good relationship is a "gestalt" - greater than the sum of its parts.

When you love someone who is a total opposite to you, you'll learn to like something that seems very unusual to you. You're also able to look at things in different perspectives. And sometimes it helps in changing your perception about things, both in a good and bad way. That's fine. It'll make you a better person because you will be aware of a lot of things. When you're being with a person who is exactly like you, it may be boring. But at the same time, it's kind of nice when you two have something to talk about. And maybe share interest together. This will also help in enhancing communication between the two of you. Actually, having someone who is just like you or just the opposite of you wasn't such a big issue. As long as you two love each other, everything will be fine. But I always find couple with opposite background looks cute together. It's just interesting to see the way they communicate and sort things out.

I think it just depends on the chemistry you both have. My Parents got divorced when I was 18. They were too different. Mom was a neat freak,nd Dad was kind of a slob. Mom liked to be more social with her friends and Dad was not really a people person. He only had one friend that he hug out with pretty rarely. They got on each others nerves my whole life but tried staying together for my sake. I was actually relieved that I know longer had to put up with their disagreements.
However I am sure some opposites are great together!

good thought honey, u tell me, what is the use to be someone who is like me. I have been living with me since i have born. Its boring to be with same. so we make friends who are different from us. Opposites (if u mean opposite mentalities, opp. thinkers) then that would be a great idea. but they cannot be friends for long time. People hate others if they like to like the other and he cannot be, or if they want others to be like him.........oh no, its confusing,

I'd say opposites would more or less just clash, while people with similar interests would get along much better.

You can have some different interests, but the best relationships are those where the two people agree on almost everything.
