There should be a course on vibrations and acoustics at your local college. You will need Calculus and Physics as pre-requisite courses.

There are two areas in the field of vibrations that are of particular importance (in my opinion). Resonance and the understanding of resonant phenomena, and induced vibrations - such as flow induced vibrations (stretch a rubber band out between two fingers on a windy day to see this phenomena).

Flow induced vibrations usually baffle most average designers; my firm as discovered it as a cause in a number of different settings, and we fixed the problem because of our understanding of this effect.
