I had reason to visit the cancer ward of a Children's hospital and without being tacky about it, during my chat with these kids I asked 7 of them if they believed in God. I know it's not much to work with but their answers were and I'll be brief;
1. No, he wouldn't let me suffer like this.
2. I hope so because I want to go to heaven.
3. No, he didn't answer my prayers.
4. I think there is but I'm not really sure.
5. I would much rather meet Ronald McDonald (I arranged that).
6. I'm not sure but if there is, I want him to help mummy look after my brother and sister if I die.
7. I don't care to talk about such things.
OK, so little faith out of the mouths of babes, is this a sign of the times or are they too young to comprehend this type of thing (average age around 11).
For what it's worth, I think that if there is a kind and loving God, after seeing these kids, he sure has a "funny" way of showing it.
Your thoughts please!

Agreed. Being in that situation makes you face how truly "juvenile" most of our conceptions are about the ultimate nature of reality.

It makes me wonder why it is that many people are much more compassionate than most of the "gods" we claim to believe in.

I noticed that the responses you received were about the same as the ones you would receive from old people on their deathbeds.

James 4:14 say " Ask not what is on the morrow for what is you life, it is just a vapor that apearith for an instant then vanisheth away".

God is loving and Kind, those children are under the age of consent or at least some of them are, they have not made a choice as to follow Christ or not and don't understand the choice.

I think you are the one that has to make a choice, what ever they suffer it will be insignificant to being separated from God for eternity and it would pale to being in fellowship with God for eternity.

I had muscular dystrophy as a child, I don't blame God for the 7 years I spent before it went into remission, it made me the man I am today. I praise God for the trails I have been through and the understanding it has given me.

I better understand the sacrifice God made in giving his only Son to die for your sins. I understand the humility God showed in coming to earth as a child when he could have called down a million angels to force his will on us.

I hope some day you will understand.

Yes I believe and Love God.

I believe there is a God. We are not suppose to ask why things happen. We are suppose to learn from what happens. Bad things happen to good people I believe because it shows others what can happen to them. No one gets a life without pain and sorrow. You can't live ever day with out some type of disappointment. Yes it is sad that children suffer. But they are a child of God and will be a beautiful angel in heaven. We are all childs of God and we are put here on earth only for a short time so we need to live every day as our last. Pray for those that are suffering and help those also. Pain can happen to any of us. Just learn from it and you will be a better person. Remember each of us is special.

Yes! I do! Although many scientific and philosophical attempts have been made to reject god's existence-the question still remains. so you may say it is just a matter of faith, but look at this way-people who don't believe in god, just in random existence, still can't explain infinite regressions or prove that god does not exist.
On the other hand, it is perfectly rational to say that there is a superior entity, which the human mind or consciousness may not be able to comprehend.
I am satisfied with the latter.
Besides, if absolute truth is not god-then what is?
BOOYAKASHA!

I do not think they are young to believe in God. It is the environment around them that helps them to believe or not. Parents usually transfer their beliefs to their children and I would say they are too young to question a belief taught to them as adults do before they convert.

My nephews are 7 and 5 and they knew there is God years ago.

What is tough for them to accept that their being sick does not contradict with Allah's love for them (after all adults find it hard to work this out!). This is the role of parents to tell them that they are the loved chosen ones. Allah knows they are tough, not like the other kids, and can endure it patiently.

It is indeed a tough experience for all involved but Allah's mercy lies within.

Peace

I DEFINITELY believe in God and He would help us whenever we are in trouble:

I will give you my insight on their opinions:
1) If you do not suffer, how can you enjoy all the things in life?
2) You want to go to Heaven, you have to believe in Him and do good deeds
3) What prayers? Good or bad? If good, maybe it's just that you have not noticed it.
4) It's better if in life, you either choose "yes" or "no".
5) Why?
6) same as 4)
7) same as 5)

That's what I think and I believe in God, He has always helped me, even a few hours ago!

I believe in god but i also believe in balance. With every good thing there is bad. Up, down. Pleasure, pain. Sickness, health. Life, death, yadda yadda. I know some might think, well that's easy to say if nothing bad has happened to you. But trust me..it's happened. And I'm sure something bad has happened to everyone who has posted on this forum. Something good too. And things have happened to me personally to make me believe that some being is out there looking our for us. I wouldn't necessarily call it "God" but i believe in a positive force out there in the universe.

Also i think its really cool of you to arrange for that lil dude to see Ronald McDonald....although he kinda creeps me out. But I have a thing with clowns.....eh.

Anyway THATS what life is about. Helping people and being fair and enjoying life not arguing about whether or not there is a God.
Because it wont really matter if you're dead from arguing too much ya know?

I personally believe in God. God's ways are strange, and we will never be able to understand the things that happen, but as far as faith goes...all you need is faith the size of a mustard seed, and if you know how small that is, then you know it's not much. It is difficult to believe in something you can't see or understand, and that is why it is called faith. Those of you that want to believe, but are unsure...that's your mustard seed, it's all you need! Just don't deny the possibility of something you don't understand. After all, you will never get the proof you need. It will never be proven one way or the other, so the choice is yours, believe or not to believe. That is the question after all, isn't it?

the answers the kids gave were very sweet and humbling. I do believe in god. i think an awful lot of terrible, cruel and wrong things happen in this world and i certainly don't have any reasons why. We need to remember that god never said things were perfect. for every bad thing in the world (and i do realise that there are a lot) there is at least one good thing
