Other people will tell you many things.....

I will tell you what I look for.....

As a dream interpreter, when a person tells me they have had a prophetic dream, I will look for inferences from the Scriptures.... which most will be present..... But, I don't just look there..... There must be two or more to confirm the matter.....

So it is written......

Matthew 18:16
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

So it was with John in the Book of Revelation and with Daniels prophecies.....

So it was between Joel with the sons and daughters prohesying and reiterated in the Acts of the apostles......

More than one will confirm a matter... and a prophetic issue between these separate individuals will be complete strangers.... and even still, will confirm what is already written.......

So that no one person can say, "I have had a dream from the Lord... Only I can tell all"........

That is why, many have disregarded dreams as having no significance....and is the reason why it was written that if any have a dream and tell it openly, he was considered evil...

There was a time when men would stand before the nation and sway them away from the Lord with dreams and visions..... so the Lord tested men.... and men feared prophets.....

the Lord revisited this means through Joel and the book of Acts.... but... no one person can claim the vision and it be found true....... To test is to search for more than one occurrence..... and weigh it with Scripture......

Deuteronomy 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
Deuteronomy 18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Jeremiah 28:9 The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD hath truly sent him.

Ezekiel 14:9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Jeremiah 23:28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 23:32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.

Baha'u'llah says every true prophet of God brings with Him three things:

A new calendar
A Holy Book or Sacred Body of Teachings
and leaves in His wake:
A new civilization.

In the case of Baha'u'llah, we won't know for a thousand years whether or not He left a new civilization. We're too close to the inception of the Faith for that to be discerned now. But, He has brought a new calendar and a new Sacred Body of Teachings (over 500 volumes--which constitute our "Holy Book").

In the Qur'án we read: --

When the sun shall be shrouded,
And when the stars shall fall,
And when the mountains are made to pass away ...
And when the leaves of the Book shall be unrolled,
And when the heaven shall be uncovered,
And when hell shall be made to blaze. -- Sura lxxxi.

In the Book of Íqán Bahá'u'lláh explains that these prophecies
about the sun, moon and stars, the heavens and the earth,
are symbolical and are not to be understood merely in the literal
sense. The Prophets were primarily concerned with spiritual,
not material, things; with spiritual, not with physical,
light. When They mention the sun, in connection with the
 228
Day of Judgment, They refer to the Sun of Righteousness. The
sun is the supreme source of light, so Moses was a sun for
the Hebrews, Christ for the Christians, and Muhammad for
the Muslims. When the Prophets speak of the sun being darkened,
what is meant is that the pure teachings of these spiritual
Suns have become obscured by misrepresentation, misunderstanding
and prejudice, so that the people are in spiritual
darkness. The moon and stars are the lesser sources of illumination,
the religious leaders and teachers, who should guide
and inspire the people. When it is said that the moon shall not
give her light or shall be turned into blood, and the stars shall

A good prophet walks the talk, lives the Word of God out in their life. The test of a good prophet/prophecy is, a) does it come true? b) is it in line with the Word of God? If not, then the person is just into power and control. They can be honestly misguided, but a lot of "prophets" do very well for themselves out of it, as shown in OT history time and time again. Anyone who calls him/herself a prophet should be subjected to close biblical scrutiny, to see if their lives bear out their message. Paul said, "Test the spirits to see if they are of God." A person can "prophesy" till they're blue, but if they're not connected to God, the "word" is coming from the other side.

A true prophet of God speaks truth, even when people dont like to hear it.

Unfortunately, the only way to know if a prophet is of God is to wait and see if his/her prophecy comes true. If it does, then it is of God. If not, he/she is not from God.

The Bible says that there are many false prophets and even the very elect can be deceived into believing that what they say is true.

Always be weary and test if they are of God. They need to confess that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, died and rose again and is now with God. They need to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.

Pray for discernment from the Holy Spirit.
