Body Shop used to do a product (can't recall the name, sorry) which they said reduced the apprearance of scars. You could try them.

Also, perhaps you could give Bio Oil a go - many women swear by its effectiveness to get rid of stretch marks (I can't say because I didn't get any with my kids!).

It depends on how old the scar is. They now make over the counter scar patches. There are many different companies that make them. Neosporin makes one called Neosporin scar solution. You need to wear it as close to 24 hours a day as you can, so that may be difficult if the scar is on the face. It works best on fresh scars. If it is a keloid.( a raised thick scar, may be itchy) you can get them injected with cortisone and it will soften it. if you are really concerned go see a dermatologist to see about options

Scars are areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin after destruction of some of the dermis. A scar results from the biologic process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues of the body. Thus, scarring is a natural part of the healing process. With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound (e.g. after accident, disease, or surgery) results in some degree of scarring.

Scar tissue is not identical to the tissue which it replaces and is usually of inferior functional quality. For example, scars in the skin are less resistant to ultraviolet radiation, and sweat glands and hair follicles do not grow back within scar tissue. A Myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, causes scar formation in the heart muscle which leads to loss of muscular power and possibly heart failure. However, there are some tissues (e.g. bone) which can heal without any structural or functional deterioration, and in fact bone tissue may be structurally stronger after a break.

A product i found to be very good is Bio- Oil, it costs about £8. Its available in the uk, check it out in your local pharmacy.

There are some patches you can but from Boots and other chemists which reduce scars. I can't remember what they're called but your pharmacist would know. They are supposed to be very effective. You could also try using bio oil - available in Boots, Superdrug and chemists - it's also very good for scars. Good luck x

I have a scar on my knee, tummy and head and they fade with time although they will never completly dissapear. I see them as a reminder that I survived my accident. I don't see them as a bad thing anymore and have come to love my scars because they are part of me.

Depending on where abouts the scar is you can buy camoflage cream which is like a foundation. You apply it in the same way. This can be found in major department stores on the cosmetics counter.

It's because you were so young and you have grown more skin which has stretched out the scar and made it appear less visable
