Sorry I cant really answer your question but about 40 people per annum are expected to die in construction each year. The Health and Safety Executive analyse these figures and leglislate in that direction. An example of this is the revision to Working at Height Regulations. I can only assume that in the year quoted there were some multiple deaths which bumped the figures up. Having looked at the HSE website graphs I see while the trend is downward 2000/1 was about 50 deaths. Falls from height is still the biggest killer about 3 times more than any other.

it is simple i think.. the world move with the technology since all the equipment or machine in construction industry became more sophisticated and became more artificial intelligence. People feel too secure of that and a mind set of these people became more degrade. They take that as for granted since they really believe they are safe when handling those artificial intelligence machine.
What they don't know is the danger and hazard of this equipment if they were not handle those properly.

Try directing your question to the Construction Industry training Board who training on saftey and other matters. Maybe it was because there were some particularly active construction projects in that year

And what do you mean by other years before or after 2000/01?

More construction activity during this time - particularly on large scale millenium projects - the more construction activity, the more risk of fatalities.
