How could the landscape have changed that much? If that was the case, then why are many modern videos and photos of that area very primitive?

Jason, I hadn't heard that one before. How does one supposedly become a carpenter then if that is really their line of work?

Evidently they did import wood...they did have boats, and wooden furniture, wooden spinning wheels and looms for making cloth, wooden carts for travel, and stuff like that.
Possibly Joseph wasn't as poor as tradition paints him, it could be that wooden items, being rare, would be expensive.
Hard to tell at this end of history...

On the other hand, Jesus didn't seem to spend alot of time at the family business during His ministry. And He seemed to derive most of His support from some ladies of substance who were devoted to Him (evidently all of His disciples were not of the male persuasion).

Chronicles II 2:16 And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.
Kings I 5:8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
Kings I 5:9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
Kings I 5:10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.
